so this old gentlemen came in today at the computer lab where i work. he says:
"i graduated here in 1949, i know how to type (type writer) and now everyone is doing this computer. I want to buy a computer but i think it will be stupid since i dont' know how to use one. I can type, i've been typing since junior high school. It has the board and a tv viewing and that clicking thing. What's that? yea a mouse. Can you teach me how to. . . . . . well on tv they say for more information go to www.. . . and how do you do that stuff?"

(this is a computer lab for students)

(i went ahead and tried to show him what a word processor is and how to go on the internet then he interrupts me)
"wait a minute, i can't learn this that fast, i want someone to take time out and teach me these things slowly."
(so a girl just brought him to our other lab upstairs where no one was there and gave him a 30 min lesson)

I dont' know, just wanted to share it, it was pretty funny. He looks like kirk douglass too! now i'm just wondering if that girl got paid a lot for her computer services.
well, whatever, just wanted to share, ha~!

Uh... okay.

Well, at least hes trying. My mom was trying to learn as well, but her computer just sits there running my DC. She hasn't been on it in about 3 weeks.

Heh, mine too. She loves her new Dell, but she really doesn't utilize that much of it.

Nice story - that old guy has got to be ~75. God Bless him.

Good for you and that girl for taking the time to help him instead of just brushing him off and then coming here to make fun of him.

Kudos to you. The typical computer lab tech (full of their "geek" pride) would have showed him half heartedly what to do, and then come to AT and make a thread titled "Old People Need to Die. Some old timer wanted me to show him how to use a computer"

my grandpa's 94 and he's trying to learn computers... i was going to build him one, disable internet and all things related to it though. (they wont get internet...scared of it). but the computer he's using currently hasnt died yet. the one he's using currently was given to him by my uncle, and my father thought it might be insulting to give a computer to my grandfather since my uncle has generally taken care of his computer stuff. (though what he has now is inadequite.)
