So I go up to the local auto parts store today to get some leather conditioner for my car. I pull up and notice this beautiful BMW 330ci with 4 exhaust pipes, lowered with ground effects. Nearly an M3 without the chromed vents.
So I'm walking along the sidewalk and the hood is up, there's a 17 or 18 year old kid there with the local highschool parking sticker on his windshield. There's a bottle of Mobil 1 on the ground, and the kid is looking at the car. He says to me, "Do you think I should replace this K&N filter?" He has a seperate compartment built for it, and it's one of those fancy $350 cone kits, I think they call them FIPKs or something. I say, "No, you just clean them." Then I ask if there's any mods other than the K&N. He says it's got exhaust, short shift kit, stage 3 dynosomething, etc. I ask if it's been on a Dyno, and he says it has, @ 248hp\242tq.
So then he says, "Yeah, I was just driving down the road and my Service light came on, so I figured it needed oil. But now this thingy here (he pulls out the dipstick) is reading WAY high. Is that a problem?" So I explain that you should take oil out before you put more in, and that the Service Light means that it needs to go to the dealership, to have the oil replaced, not added to.
He then said he needed to wash it, because he was trading it in tomorrow, for a 2002 Porsche Carrera. (BTW, the BMW is a 2002) I ask him if it's a turbo and he says, "No way, I can't afford a 911 Turbo. I mean my dad can't, not one for me anyways." So I ask him what his dad drives, he says SL55 AMG. He then says the Porsche is only $52,000 at Park Place Mercedes, and they had called him earlier that day when they had aquired it, since his dad had told them he was looking for a Porsche.
So we go back to talking about the car he has now, the BMW, and he said that it will "pull on an m3." I ask how that can be, since the m3 has 333hp. He explains that they only put about 280hp to the wheels. I doubt he can actually outrun an m3.
So then he tells me that it pulls really hard on Camaro SSs and the like on the highway, and that he had gotten "some kind of attempted manslaughter charge" for going 168mph on hwy 114. He said he just got probation and that it wasn't a big deal.
Anyways, I just had to get this all out.... I kinda wonder if the kid wasn't a liar, but he did have the one really nice car, so it's likely that his stories were true...
