A story about a cow and a wish

Long ago in Russia, there was a village that had two neighboring farmers.
The first had everything go right. His crops always were plentiful and of first quality. He had the best water, the best soil. His animals never got sick. His greatest pride was his cow. It gave the best and most milk in the land. Everyone was amazed by this beast.

Now his neighbor had the opposite luck. All bad. If it rained it rained around him (usually on his neighbor). He barely scratched a living out of the ground, and his only cow died, a sickly beast.

Now Michael the Angel took pity on the second man, and decided to go and visit.

"Good man" he said, "I have seen your plight, and I have been given the power to grant one wish"

Michael watched the man deep in thought. Would he want better land? A thriving herd of cattle?

Finally the man smiled and said "Kill my neighbors cow"

So why is this in P&N? Because we sometimes forget that instead of wishing for good, we are only too glad when ill befalls our country if only it makes the political opposition look bad. That is wrong headed thinking.

No matter who wins in this election, we need to keep the welfare of our country and our people paramount. If we oppose a party or candidate let it be for cause, not because they are the "other guy".

Well put (ref. my sig).

I really, really hope (and belive) we will get our answer tomorrow, rather than prolonged, painful litigation. Whomever wins, I hope they make a sincere effort to bridge the parties, and at least try to build consensus in our country (and better yet, the world).

What's funny is that if Kerry gets impeached, then we'll just get Edwards. :D

Yeah right.. Lets spend 4 years completely distorting the truth and attacking the President, then claim we want everyone to just get along (Presumably because you think Kerry is going to win).. We are gonna attack your guy relentlessly for 4 years, but if our guy gets elected we should all get along... Yeah, f__k that.. its ON if Kerry gets elected.. You made the bed, lay in it.

Are you telling me that honestly if Bush is re-elected you think the democrats will try to work with him? You are living if a fantasy world if you think that is gonna happen. If you were honest about that, you would have been calling for that for the past 4 years.

But yeah, lets work toward consesus of the world.. We need to make North Korea, Iran, Syria, and all those countries like us more... I suppose that goes back to Kerry's Global Test right? I wonder what you would say if the U.N. was giving you orders.. Would you go to war under U.N. command? After all, that would be a consensus right?

This is a perfect example of the partisan invective I was alluding to, and that I think has been so destructive in this country for the last 15 years or so.

I certainly HOPE that is President Bush is re-elected, and willing to work to build consensus, the Democrats will work with him toward that end.

Do you, too, hope Sen Kerry is impeached if he is elected tomorrow?
