Good find! I might have to break down and get HBO now. I was holding out until they came out with the Pacific version of Band of Brothers.

Sweet. I just started reading A Song of Ice and Fire and love it so far. A series would be great.

HBO really is the perfect way to get a long series like this on film. A season per book is going to get plenty of the finer details.

As excited I am about this, I'm not sure how well it would fare. With Rome being cancelled after two seasons as well as Carnivale, I wonder how they think this would hold up for seven.

Plus, who knows if the books will even be finished by then.

Sweet! www.georgerrmartin.com is the main site if any of you guys are curious.

I'll be subscribing to this if its any good (and I think it will) to make sure the seasons last through all the books and don't get cut off after a season. That means no downloading you guys. :D

I wonder how that scene with Cersei and Jaime are going to play out...

I thought Rome was done because all the major turmoil will be over once Augustus ascends the throne? After that, it would pretty much become a first century West Wing.

2011 does seem overly optimistic at this rate.

fixed.

i'm guessing he means the tower scene where bran is tossed.

it couldn't be any worse than that dancing video we just saw.

they might do it so that you only see cersei and that she has a lover other than robert. that would keep the mystery up.

finding good children actors is impossible, this fact alone means the series will suck :(

pan's labyrinth?

they'll probably cast john and robb a little older than in the book, sansa as well. bran will be tough to cast because the actor will age much more quickly than the character.

Damn, I hope it's better than Rome with it's low budget, overacting, horrible pacing and no action whatsoever.

It's gonna be hard to do. The pacing of a 1000 page book is hard to convert into an enjoyable visual production

I mean how are they gonna do the direwolves without a big budget. Unless they use a bunch of siberian huskies or something lame like that. The huge ship battle at the end of clash will be impossible to do as well. All the ornate plate mail, realistic dragons (once they start fighting like the ringwraiths in LOTR), eight foot tall men like the mountain is going to be really hard to do.

I would've preferred 18 movies.

It has the possibility to be good, but a lot of fanboys will probably be screaming when they make some change in the transition from book to tv.

lol.

Maybe they will get it right and mix books 4 and 5 and just do them in chronological, rather than geographical, order as it should have been (and as Martin said we were free to do by cutting up our books and putting them together...what a d*ck. I hate him and hate myself for loving these books so much)

I would have preferred 18 LOTR movies, but we know how that goes. :(

You pretty much have to go CG on some of the stuff (like direwolves and giants). Just hope they don't cheap out, nothing's worse than bad CG.

the thing i don't understand is, he said a year and a half ago that the book was almost done but far too long for 1 volume. so they split it. and now it's been over a year since feast came out and we still don't have any idea when dance will come out.

Do you ever read his 'not a blog' and news?

The reason it hasn't been finished is because he won't write it! He says that he isn't one of those authors that will "write on a plane, or in a hotel, or a coffeshop when i'm traveling" He has also had his home going through a remodel, and simply couldn't write when that was going on. Then it was football season and he couldn't stop watching. The freakin excuses and reasons for not writing go on and on and on.

He will only write when absolutly nothing else in his life is going on, he is at home with quiet and no chores to do, when he's gotten just the right amount of rest and the correct breakfast foods, the temperature is between 68 and 72 degrees and he has nothing to plan for in the next two weeks.

So he writes about two days a year.

No, it just takes jordon so long because it takes a lot of thought to write so much and yet have so little happen.

It's got potential to be a great series if it's given a big enough budget, they get a great director and most importantly, they don't mess with the story. I just get this sinking feeling that HBO is going to insist that it's watered down and sanitized before making it on the air. I also wonder how the viewing public will feel about a series where a major character dies every week. Fans of the books will certainly get it, but I don't think the average TV viewer is going to stick with things if their favorite character croaks in week 4 and their second favorite dies in week 5.
