But Neville Chamberlain did!

Appeasement leads to larger wars pick up a history book.

Peace isn't free.

Chamberlain didn't have the advantage of 20-20 hindsight. Neither does GWB, so how can you justify pre-emptive invasions? With non-exixtent WMD's?

Won't it be ironic if WW3 is caused by a pre-emptive invasion because of WMD's that never existed in the first place?

You retard he had WMD's he used them already...

stfu about NO WMD's

Tell these people about the non-exsistant WMD's

Do liberals not own history books?

hmmm...so in your idea...we should attack germany today, because they had a military buildup in 1930's, which lead to the 1940 WW2, just as them using those weapons lead to the Gulf War 1... pick up a history book once in a while, where are the WMD since the first gulf war?

 I'd pick up a history book if I could throw it atcha! ;)

I knew a simple soldier boy
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
No one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Those are not WMD's, those are commonly available chemicals that one could buy (althoughh not in large quantities easily) from any industrial manufacturer. The term WMD is slung around easily, but frankly, the fact that no WMD's were found pretty much proves that Iraq had no WMD's.

---

So lets re-iterate the difference between Hitler's Germany and Saddam's Iraq:

1) Military -

Germany + Italy had a peace deal with the USSR. Because of that, in Europe, they were unmatched on the ground AND in the air AND their navy posed a credible threat to the UK.

Saddam's military was just a fraction of its pre-First Gulf War strength. They have 2 hostile regimes near them (Israel and Iran). Go read any CIA/US Government document about Saddam's military to confirm. Above all, Saddam has always had problems with Al-Qaeda (Bin Laden hates secular leaders like Saddam) trying to distrupt his policy.

2) Economy -

Germany + Italy had massive economic growth in the '30s. Their military buildup was nothing short of astonishing. Their industrial based allowed them to build thousands of heavy military equipment yearly.

Saddam was being choked by UN Sanctions (despite what the neo-cons like to downplay). Compared to pre-Desert Storm Iraq, it was still rebuilding. Saddam cannot replace any miltary equipment that is lost.

3) Containment -

Hitler was actively trying to expand. First the Rhineland, then Austria, then Czech, then Poland.

Saddam has trouble keeping Al-Qaeda away from his own borders and has trouble policing his own country.

4) Technology

German technology was on the forefront. They developed V2 rockets, jet airplanes, advanced U-Boats, superior Tanks (Panzer/Tiger), superior guns and more.

Saddam uses 60-70s Soviet technology along with a couple 70s French Mirages. US Military personnel reported most of these as incapable of military operation due to lack of service parts.

You, sir, are the one that should be picking up a history book.

It's a great peice.
Too bad the 'smug-faced crowds' in this forum will mostly ignore it.
They'll just continue to wave their flags and send our youth to their destruction.

That touches my heart profoundly. My dad lied about his age, and at 17 was in the 4th marine division at Roi-Namur. They went on to Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. I could see in his eyes "The hell where youth and laughter go", if the war was ever brought up.
He was asked to speak at my high school about the war, and he foolishly agreed. It just tore him up:(
