A slew of networking problems.

OK, so here's my situation.
I have a cable connection, which goes into my LinkSYS EtherFast Cable/DSL Router. I have 2 PCs which i wish to be online right now. A week ago, before i moved my PCs for cleaning and painting a room, both were online. Now when i relocated the PCs, I can only get one PC online at a time.

PC A: Dell with Windows 98 and USB NIC from LinkSYS. [online atm]
PC B: Custom with Win2k and internal FA311 Netgear NIC. [not online]

as soon as i relocated, i could get PC B but not A online. i changed settings in both pcs, switched rj45s around and for 5 days straight now i have A but not B online.

no matter what i do, what i change, i can't get PC B online. I have been able to get only 1 pc on at a time, and the scary thing is that my brother said that he "thinks he dropped the router and it made a bang."

multiple times i have taken the router out of the equation and tried to put PC B's rj45 directly into the cable modem. no luck. i reinstalled win2k (things were starting to act up anyway) and no luck.

PC b, which i had online a few days ago will NOT go on, no matter what. A will go online through the router or not.

now, when i run "ipconfig" on the win2k (PC B), i get the following:

IP: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

when i run "winipcfg" on the 98 (PC A), i get:

IP: 24.187.---.---
Subnet Mask: 255.255.240.0
Default Gateway: 24.187.---.---

I know this is pretty lengthy 😛, but if you can help, please drop any suggestions 🙂 thanks.

ibot pcs should have a non-rotable address and the router should have the 24.xx.xx.xx address. ssems to me the pcs are not hooked to the router correclty if one of them is able to obtain the 24.xx.xx.xx address. cable modem should be plugged into the wan side of the router, and the both pc's into the lan side of the router.

disconnect the pc with the 24.xx.xx.xx address, then from the 192.xx.xx.xx pc log into the router add have it refresh the wan ip.
make sure that the router is actually 1926.168.1.1 ( ti think linksys defaults to that so it should be ok). Weh you get the one pc with the 192 address up on the network, then go back and try the next pc.

are you leasing more than one IP from your ISP? because if you are not, the one PC with the 24.xx.xx.xx address is grabbing the only address you are leasing, which is why the router is not getting one.
