A simple processor question.

Currently I have a P4 2.8 in my computer, I just found a Core 2 Duo 4300 SL9TB MALAY 1.80 GHZ.

Would this be a step up for me or would I not see any difference?

It would be a step up, and would overclock readily if you were willing to try your hand at that. What's slowing your computer down currently?

Well, the thing is I work in a residential building and people throw away all kinds of stuff so when I see a comp I just grab the parts (HD's, CPU's, RAM). I just figured I would try throwing in some of the spare parts.

My current specs are..

Win XP Pro SP3
P4 2.8
GEIL 2x512mb PC3200 DDR400
1x WD 60GB
1x WD 80GB

What I have sitting around in spare parts are...

1x P4 2.4
1x Core 2 Duo 4300 SL9TB MALAY 1.80 GHZ

1x hynix 512MB DDR 333MHz
1x NANYA 256MB DDR 266MHz- CL2 PC2100U
1x Samsung 410 K4H560838F-TCB3 - on the back it says - ZK512M68J-8 <--- I guess it's 512MB?

1x Maxtor DiamomdMax Plus 9 160GB ATA
1x WD 60GB

If your MB supports the C2D it would be an improvement, if you could OC it it would be a large improvement. What is the rest of your system?

Whether it will even boot up depends on what motherboard (and probably BIOS too) that you have.
