Is this seriously what passes as black metal these days? It sounds like lamely distorted talking over a third-rate Sega Genesis racing game soundtrack.

I'm not a metalhead, but that doesn't sound like the black metal I'm familiar with.

Nobody in their right mind would consider that to be black metal.

That's pretty tame. Black metal is not black metal without blast beats. But, it's certainly better than alot of the crap that your average garage band would spew out.

yeah, i didn't really think they were black metal, but i guess thats what they call themselves. it sounds more hard rock to me with silly lyrics. they have some pretty bad songs IMO but they have a popular "underground" internet following of some sort. as far as musicians go they were pretty good. i think their drummer is endorsed by some custom drum company (dunno the name, i think it started with an S...maybe Shine?).

no pictures of studio right now, but recorded the drums in a warehouse. hardware used was a firepod and a firebox for ten inputs, one kick, one snare, two OHs, four toms, and two room mics. guitar amps were mic'd with a standard sm57 (it was a peavey amp of some sort and a b-52 st6012 that was like mine but sounded better). bass was just run direct into the box, a fender jaguar. DAW used was audition 3.

i updated the title, i'd like to call them "metal" instead of metal, you know? maybe they are J-POP :D

Don't insult actual awesome solos by calling that an awesome solo.

Feel free to call that an awesome solo.

Holy FUCK! Vultures solo... what a coincidence that it's my favorite SONG and favorite SOLO out of hundreds of Arch Enemy songs. You ROCK man! I had no idea there was a close-up video of solo like this.

I'm going to assume a SM57 on snare? What kind of overheads did he have?

Yep, just an SM57 on the snare. I borrowed some Rode NT-2s for the overheads (can't afford those guys just yet). FOr the room, I just spaced a couple of MXL990s about eight feet apart and about eight or 10 feet back from the kit.
