okay, so you're new here at anandtech (or not new and just don't pay attention) and you're all like "i just put together a l33t rig that pwns j00 all and i must show everyone!" so what do you do? you start listing things in your sig and it grows to about 20 lines and then everytime you post in a thread everyone has to scroll through your extra 20 line sig.

so what do you do? do the smart thing and check out another nice feature anandtech has to offer. it's really easy, start by going to www.anandtech.com and following this easy to use guide!

1. using your browser of choice journey to www.anandtech.com.
2. guide your trusty mouse pointer to the left hand column of the page and click on 'My AnandTech'.
3. this is where it gets tricky. enter in your forum user/pass under "Login to My AnandTech" and click 'Login'. having the site remember your user/pass is optional of course.
4. you will now find yourself at your very own My AnandTech page! joy! here you will see a section called Information, click the link that says 'Edit my System Rigs profile'.
5. we're almost there! just hang with me a few more moments! now, click on 'add system rig' and start plugging in those uber l33t components!
6. now click the 'Add System Rig button' at the bottom of the page. this will generate a page for your uber l33t rig. you'll see a box with a link in it, highlight that link, right click your mouse and hit copy.
7. but wait, we're not quite done yet! now log back into the forums and click on 'profile' at the top right.
8. scroll down to the signature box and delete all that spammy stuff you've got there now. this is where we get technical! here's what you need to add in your sig:

MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE SPACES BESIDE THE BRACKETS OR THIS WILL NOT WORK. if you don't understand what i mean just say so and someone will explain it to you.

[ L=my uber l33t rig ]http://www.anandtech.com/mysystemrig.aspx?id=29212[ /L ]
or
[ L=(insert link name) ](insert url)[ /L ]
plug your own url in where mine is, please don't try and pass my rig off as your own, that's just LAME.

9. now click on 'Update Profile' and you're golden! just remember, this only works for system specs, your ultra cool mod quotes will not be transferred, so skip those when clearing out your old system specs!

edit: in my case the link i'm getting doesn't work, so just view your rig and copy & paste that url to your sig.

if you have any questions, feel free to pm someone else and ask them.

btw, this is extremely helpful when you're asking questions. instead of having to list out your stuff someone who wants to help can just click the link in your sig and see your system specs. BONUS!

stfu. I hope my rig doesn't take up to much of your precious space. Also your entire post is a waste since your rig link doesn't even work nice going.

yay look it's a n00b with 5k posts. amazing you ppl still exist.

hmmm. apparently the link you get from the system rigs area only works if you're logged into myanandtech otherwise it just gives you the login screen. so i guess i'll use the one for people not logged in (no idea why it would be different) and update the guide.

okay apparently this link only works for me. yay!

Nope, that link doesn't work for me, and I'm logged in to myanandtech. It takes me to a page that says "Welcome Somniferum to My AnandTech!"

Your new "rig" link works now, though.

yeah, i changed it. that link works fine for me tho, the only time it doesn't work is when i log out of myanandtech. it's the link i get when i check out my rig in the system rigs thing, i guess it's just hosed up. maybe i'll recreate it again or whatever and see what happens. it actually forwards me to the link that's in my sig. how weird is that.

see if this works:

How many people actually take the time to click a link to look at someone's system, especially when you know there's not going to be any pics? It takes too long for my level of interest.

anyone who cares to see what your rig looks like? this is mostly for the people who insist on making a list of everything in their system one item on a line. it's spammy and annoying. if you're not a total tool and at least make an effort to compact it whatever. i'm simply trying to let people know about a feature of anandtech they are probably ignorant about. *shrug*

I'm sorry, my last post kind of came out wrong. A lot of people use this feature and seem to like it so each to their own. :) And I agree that long sigs are a PITA.

How exactly am I a n00b? Because I have been here one less year than you or because I don't use System Rigs? I did use it when I first join here actually. But I perfered to see others rigs in their sig instead of making a link to it so I did it my self, assuming others perfer that as well. I agree with pelikan on this issue, I don't have enough interest to actually click on a link to see what someone has. I don't see what is so wrong with this? I agree with you that it shouldn't be vertical taking up a ton of space but I rarely see that anyways.

You don't have enough interest to click on a link, and yet you assume everyone else wants to see your rig -- every time you post?

I've seen a TON of new members lately with huge sigs that are nothing but 10+ components listed, one on each line. I *really* don't care about what kind of fans or PSU you have in your system. I definitely don't want to read it again every time you make a 1-line post (which suddenly becomes a 15-line post because of the insanely long sig).

If you condense it to a line or two in your sig, I don't care. Just don't list it all out one item at a time. Yours and pelikan's sigs are fine. Somniferum's sig (six lines that could be condensed to three, contains such gems as his brand of CD-RW and 7200RPM hard drives) is pushing it. fkloster's (sorry, you were the first egregious offender I found, at 11 lines) is just freaking annoying.

you're a n00b because of your jackass'd response. if your sig is one line what makes you think i'm reffering to you? obviously i had to specify which i did in one of my replies to this thread. as for not having my own sig right, i've got the link that was provided to me, i had to fix it because myanandtech is giving me a bad link.

 to the OP, I find it annoying. I think what happened was everyone had their rig properly sig-ified, then the site changed how it was done and very few noticed or bothered fixing it, and so ~90% of peoples' sig-linked rigs still don't show up properly. Especially noticeable when someone makes a post like "Having problems with <whatever>, computer in sig", and it turns out to be a broken link.

Yep.... and some of them can't make the link work anyway........and then post a "how to" thread about it... Priceless

My initial post was "jackass'd" because the tone of your explination. You treat everyone as if they are idiots and needed you own personalized "uber l33t" comments. I just thought it was funny that you posting such a thread and had the link wrong anyways. Whatever though, glad to see its all good now and perhaps it could be a useful thread so some people who don't know about the feature. I don't ussually get into arguements and I'm not one to keep going to push it further and further I was just annoyed with way you posted the procedure.
