A serious First World Problem (or Best Buy sucks) (updated)

I'll be brief...

1. Pre-Ordered PS4 and XBox One as soon as possible from Best Buy.

2. BofA informs me that my VISA card that I had used for the pre-order was compromised and I would have to be issued a new card.

3. Called Best Buy customer service and transferred the pre-order to the new card.

4. Two-weeks later I notice that my pre-order was cancelled.

5. Called Best Buy again, somehow the pre-order "reverted" back to my old card. Then it was automatically cancelled after my card was disabled.

6. Sorry, cancelled orders cannot be re-activated. You must place a new order.

7. Sorry you can't place a new order as we are no longer taking pre-orders for the consoles. Here is 10% off your next order, have a nice day.

8. Have to break the news to the children or scramble to score a new console order.

Anyway, if anyone has a better idea then writing lots of angry letters to Best Buy I would be glad to hear it. I already have lots of ideas involving firearms....

Update...
First world problem mostly averted. I was able to re-pre-order the Xbox One and Best Buy is sending me a $50 gift card for my trouble.

I didn't really have any further luck contacting anyone who could actually reinstate my original order. I was just lucky that more Xbox One became available.

This is truely a first world problem. Your poor children, what will they do with themselves not having both new consoles?

I suspect this will be like the PS3 launch. Lots of people buying in an attempt to cash in on ebay. Within 24 hours the price will plummet and they will be selling for less than retail. These things are really expensive so the demand will not be as high. You will probably be able to buy one shortly after launch at retail at Best Buy.

This is just poor customer service. Sure, it wouldn't happen to someone outside of the "first world" but its still crappy. You went through the effort to secure two items you wanted for your kids and best buy's crappy policies ruined your work. I would call their customer complaint hotline.

Unfortunately this is the way of the new world. Big companies aren't accountable for poor service. I almost go into everything knowing that something will not go the way it should. Just like when comcast came out to install their services. I knew something would be wrong, and that I would have to deal with their fantastic customer service. But what exactly can we do about it? Write some bad letters? They don't care.

I also have to constantly check the gas and electric company accounts to make sure they arent putting one last bill on there. They did that to me last time, and it ended up on my credit report, even after calling them multiple times to confirm that there were no more charges on that account.

Your preorder reverted back to your old card because that is the card they had on their system. I'm sure we are all aware that this kind of preorder system will be put in place as cheaply as possible. Mistakes happen but I would be calling them up and asking to speak to a supervisor to see if your original order can be reinstated as they presumably now haw 2 more consoles being delivered than they have preorders for.

If the Best Buy system wasn't designed to reinstate cancelled orders (which we will probably never know unless any BB employees want to chime in), what are they supposed to do?

I would blame the thieves that compromised your card, not Best Buy...

Well I know that Best Buy is going to be getting quite a few PS4 and XBox systems so it should be physically possible for them to get one to me. However it is just not convenient for them to do it because of how they process orders. It is more convenient for them to tell me to screw off and that they can't help me.

I could blame the thieves or the merchant that leaked my data or VISA for coming up with a insecure payment system. ;) Instead I will blame Best Buy since they are the final link in the chain and I made a effort to communicate with them about the situation. I feel like I did my due diligence.

They gave you a coupon for 10% off your next order.
What exactly is the problem again?

The only problem is that you are raising two entitled little bitches. My kids will never know what it feels like to be handed top of the line equipment unless they earned the money, which they already understand at a young age. Oh well, someone has to make my lunch.

the question is when your card was compromised and you used your new card....why did you not delete the compromised card from your Best Buy account???? That would not have happened....

The kids are a convenient excuse for me to enjoy new game systems and get some Forza 5 in on release day. They will be lucky to play on the new consoles, lol.

But yes the kids have never had to know the joy of HIMEM.sys, EMM386, or paying by the hour for dial-up access only to realize that you spent a hour downloading some crappy shareware.

That doesn't make sense...many people pre-ordered months ago and used a credit card for their order. The cards don't get charged until they are shipped.

If the card gets compromised before they are shipped, the card gets cancelled automatically.

Does the 10% off work on the consoles? Then you got a discount on something that probably won't go on sale for a long time.

I ass-umed that my old card was removed when I called in and told them that it was compromised and to put my order on the new card. I didn't check my Best Buy account immediately after calling in.

I think that if you have a pre-order your billing info is periodically checked (once a month or so...) by placing a temporary hold on the card for the amount of the order. I think the periodic check caused my order to cancel, but I'm still not sure why the original card information was used.

Buying them nicer things than the average kid doesn't mean they will become assholes.

Reminds me of a family member. To paraphrase "those kids (referring to me and my siblings some years ago) are too spoiled, they need to learn to work hard, when I was 14 I had a job, blah blah blah." Funny enough, that guy has had nothing but crappy part-time jobs for the past few years and is currently unemployed. Yeah, whatever.

That's what you get from not ordering from somewhere more reputable like Amazon.

Yeah I guess I should have ordered from both places for redundancy.

I thought that since I live in WA I was going to pay sales tax either way and I work near Best Buy so it would be easy to pick up the order.

I'm thinking the real problem isn't BofAmerica or Best Buy. The real problem is having kids. No kids, no problem. I get all the toys.

Sony has stated that they are specifically asking retailers to limit pre-orders to ensure that there will be consoles on store shelves at release.

LOL yes, well in this case it appears that no one is getting any toys. (or rather some lucky guy is getting my original order)
