We all know AMD is in the red right now, however this is really impressive.

This is taken from the Opteron Article on at News.com

In the past 16 years, AMD has had eight profitable years and eight in the red. Total net earnings since the end of 1986, including acquisitions and sell-offs, comes to around $350 million, about the same as Intel earns in six weeks.

Intel has been in the cpu business a lot longer than AMD, and something called 'Market Share' has to do with those stats you talk about. :)

Microsoft and Intel are number 47 and 58 respectively on the Fortune 500 list. Their annual sales are 28.4B and 26.8B, not a large difference. Both are small compared to the top 5, Walmart, GM, Exxon, Ford and GE.

Fortune 500 list

Among the computer giants, IBM, HP and Dell are ahead of MS.

Unless I'm mistaken, AMD has been in the x86 biz only a year less than Intel. Could be wrong... :D

Actually, they just call them "Pentiums" :p Dang, how I wish AMD would've stuck with "Sledgehammer" as an official CPU name :D

That's a misleading statement, as MS makes more profit than most (maybe any?) corporations. No one cares about your revenue if you're not making a profit.

True, and I build them with Intel just so I don't keep getting the "Please help" phone calls when something goes wrong. Too many when I'm sleeping that were related to driver issues (mainly with the VIA chipset boards), BSOD (most due to heat or RAM (which works fine in my P4)), and so on. You just don't get that with a P4 w/ a Intel chipset. And I was once a die hard AMD person until I tasted the good life when I got my first P4 several months ago. And I am slowly converting my other boxes.

sales on these large coporations are important..but I would say looking a fortune 500..MS is better run corporation than say Ford/GM..also note these top corp. could not easily buy MS..remember it has 0 debit...and somewhere around $40 billion ....and the cash hoard has increased significantly even with there stock price falling...If i recall around 1999 or so they had about $26 in cash

*Shrugs*

You build 'em right, and they won't have issues. I've built several AMD machines for friends and family, as well as myself...stable, cool, and faster than their equivalent @ the time. Ever since going AMD when the K6-2 was out (yes I know, it was bad, but Athlons hanged that), my family and I have never bought a Pentium.

My current machine has had two issues that weren't tied to my changing IDE connections around. One of those was due to memory issues (Corsair misgraded it for nForce2) and the other was due to OC'ing.

When I make a computer for someone that know very little about them I use an AMD... They are happy with the money that they save.. :)
I use Intel and AMD at home but I use intel in my main rig(see sig) I like Intel better because the HSF are EZer to work with.. :p
But I know may fans of AMDs that will only use AMDs...

Walmart could buy and sell Microsoft like 10 times over

I spent about 5 weeks doing the research on Microsoft... and I can tell u this...
No one in the world can buy Microsoft..
Just the Windows source code alone costs about $200 billion..
And there are microsoft office, Money, Visual studio and etc...
Also there are only a few hundred-thousand ppl working for Microsoft... and only about a few hundred ppl are really working for them...
And Microsoft doesn't pay shareholders.. they keep every single penny they make..
and they don't invest alot.. they use the same basic code for all windows from win95 to winxp.
