I like how people blame him for that. I bet you if anybody here got offered $250 million to do what they do, 99% would say yes without thinking twice. The remaiing 1% would get a heart attack from the excitement.

Yep, the "Oh well player X is overpaid" argument is so stupid.

Holy crap, another home run by Posada! After Tigers walked A-rod semi-intentionally. This is becoming a home run hitting contest by the Yanks. 5 so far.

Wow... Yanks are lighting it up tonight. I have a soft spot for the Tigers, since my dads side of the family is from the area. My grandmother worked for the AP and my dad got to see a ton of Tigers games right on the field back in the day.

No, the "X player is overpaid" arguement isn't stupid. Many professional athletes are overpaid. The "X player is an ass because he gets paid so much" argument is stupid.

The argument "X player is overpaid" is stupid. It's not like Rangers didn't have to pay A-rod $250 million, but could've gotten him for $210 from another store. Teams pay the players whatever it takes to get them. Every player is unique, and you cannot overpay for something that is unique, simply because there is no set price. On the other hand, teams do make stupid decissions by spending too much money on one guy, while they have other holes to fill.

Just because a team is willing to pay X amount of dollars doesn't mean it isn't stupid. With the society that I live in, I'm sure A-Rod and all these other highly paid athletes can live very well on a million a year, and take that other 240+ million he makes and make some other people's lives much easier.

However, I know this isn't how the world works, and if I was offerred that much money, don't think I wouldn't do it. I'm allowed to bitch since I only make $22k a year. When I watch someone make $40 million + a year, and just an extra $10k a year would completely change my life for the better, I like to get angry.

The only people you can blame for that are fans willing to spend $50 for tickets, $20 for hats and $80 for jerseys. If that money didn't go to the players it'd simply stay in owners pockets. I would rather players have it that owners. Simple supply/demand curve.
