A ritual I perform in the morning in struggling to get my eyes to focus is reading GoogleNews. On this one I came across this.

Something about how this guy doesn't think AI searches preclude the need for search engine optimization. I think, idk.

And also a cautionary tale about what happens when you snort way too much adderall.

Large Language Models ("AI") are replacing the search engine as we have always known it.
Some day Google will not be Google. It'll just be Google AI. That transition has already begun.
You will not just simply enter a search query, you'll be having a conversation with Google AI, among others.

This new facet of the internet will make search engine optimization obsolete too. Or so they say.

I think the reason you didn’t get anything out of it is because he doesn’t say much of anything. He says search engine optimization for google is dead, they’re all in on AI search which is garbage. He says he predicted this but the ‘experts’ didn’t believe him. Then he says he almost quit writing but then started doing anti-SEO stuff which boosted his readership massively. He never explains what he did differently. This is essentially an advert to get you to buy a paid subscription to his private newsletter, where presumably he’ll say something useful.

I had exactly this same suspicion but I couldn't make heads or tails out of the technical jargon owing to being overwhelmed by the amount of attention being paid by thinkers regarding AI, search engines, the internet, etc. It's hard to take in for this antique. My theory on AI was that anything that is aware it exists will so love awareness itself it will feel a duty to save all potentially self aware individualities. What is consciousness Seems to me that consciousness is a state of awareness not a state of knowing what awareness is. It the answer to that question that ceases to be a question when awareness appears.
