hey fellas, my Dad needs a new computer cuz his old Athlon XP is just too slow. Basically he needs an office computer but he likes to play strategy games from time to time and therefor i think he should get a decent GPU. So, here we go:

CPZ Scythe Mine SCMN-1100 Rev.B
+
DDR2 2048MB KIT PC667 MDT (its a european value ram brand) DS CL4
+
SATA 250GB Seagate ST3250820AS SII 8MB69,90 Euro
+
MOT S775 ASUS P5B-E P965 130,49 Euro
+
Core2 Duo E6400+BOX 2x2,13Ghz 2MB 197,90 Euro
+
be quiet! 400W Straight Power 51,70 Euro
+
PCIe 256MB X1950Pro Sapphire LRT 183,90 Euro
=
855,00 Euro

Dont need a case and a dvd burner, since the old ones will do.

Iam thinking about ocing the system @333Mhz FSb, just to make it a bit faster without adding too much costs.

Questions:

Any other GPU´s that come to mind?

Is the cooler noisy, or would a Arctic Freezer be cheaper and silent too? I heard the newer models come with 4pin (PWM). i know the freezer pro are kind of noisy without a regulation.

Anythin else i might have overlooked?

thx in advance for ur comments :)

An X1950 is overkill for playing an RTS from time to time. I'd go with a 7600GT or ATI equivalent, maybe even lower. What games does he play?

hm, i dont know exactly, Sudden Strike i can remember (i know its freakin old), but he likes to buy newer games when he´s in the mood plus i dont want the rig to become outdated too fast. He´s still using a geforce 4 and an Athlon XP at the moment, eg he doesnt like to change his hardware very often. So i though lets give him some power that will last like 2 years for RTS games..

hahaha...great name for a PSU. Seems like a good system. Essentially what he had a couple of years ago relative to todays high end.

I know I would never overclock a machine I built for a family member, since I'm always the first person they call when something goes wrong. Your dad might not need 2gigs of ram either, although it will make the machine nice and futureproof, especially if he ever wants to run Vista.

Good luck.

hehe, this it was iam trying to do...make my dad prooouuuud.

well, after sum more research I changed the config a little:

CPZ Scythe Mine SCMN-1100 Rev.B 30Eur
+
DDR2 2048MB KIT PC667 Corsair Value VS2GBKIT667D2, 190Eur
+
SATA 250GB Hitachi 7k500 8MB 66,30 Euro
+
MOT S775 ASUS P5B-E P965 130,49 Euro or P5B..still not sure, see Q. downwards
+
Core2 Duo E6400+BOX 2x2,13Ghz 2MB 197,90 Euro
+
be quiet! 400W Straight Power 51,70 Euro
+
PCIe 256MB X1950Pro Club 3D 180,00 Euro

I choose the Corsair cuz it seems to be 100% compatible, the Club3D has the Accelero2 which is supposed to be more quiet than the usual standard cooler, and I read alot about the noisiness of the latest 7200.10 Seagate series so ill go for a Hitachi instead.

ANd now one last question:

Do you think a PB5 non deluxe will handle a 333MHz FSB? That would be all i wanted the board to achieve.

Thx for comments
