A review of Deadspace and Fallout 3

Although not for all the same reasons, I concur with the disappointment in both of these games. I wrote my own Dead Space Review a few weeks back expressing a similar idea: it's not a bad game, and is probably worth playing once it hits the bargain bin, but it does NOT belong on the list of all time great games. As for Fallout 3, I haven't written my review yet, but I found it to be a huge waste of time. Next time there's a lull at work, I'll probably write up a full review, but suffice it to say I was not impressed with the graphics, the art design, the story telling & the awful ending, the limitation on leveling up, the combat & VATS, or just about anything else.

I pretty much agree. Fallout 3 was good, but not great. I played it through once.

Mass Effect was amazing. I played it through 3 times and I agree with everything. It is revolutionary and I cant wait for Alpha Protocol/Mass Effect 2.

Yeah, games with mostly fetch quests like WoW are a big waste of time. *sarcastic*

These were two great games and both were a lot of fun. IMHO, Mass Effect was a bore compared to both of these games due to it's uninteresting story and generic Sci-Fi world. Although a little buggy, F3 was a great game. Just like Oblivion, it will only get better as more mods are made available.

Would I have been more happy with a isometric F3? You bet, but the glory days of BG1/BG2 and Fallout1/2 are over, sadly. RIP Black Isle.

I bought Fallout 3 two weeks ago expecting something spectacular seeing as everyone raved about it, I was let down. The graphics weren't what I expected, the voice acting was mediocre, the no connection to most of the quests, and many other things had me thinking that this was one of the greatest games of the year??? I guess the hype killed it for me kind of like it killed The Dark Knight for me as well.

I think the criticisms of Dead Space are a little hard on it, the game was fun to me. A lot more fun than the average game that comes out. It certainly had its flaws, but it did a lot of things right as well.

i quit reading after the i am a film student that makes horror movies... and nightmare on elm street, ringu, and 28 days later had scary elements. It was a fun game, and it had good scary elements. could it have been better, yes. it's hard to convey scary when it's not reality.

I stopped reading after this:
Now, I haven't played Fallout or Fallout 2, but I can say with relative certainty ....

Paraphrase: I don't know what I am talking about, but I do

This is just a bitching session.

I really liked Dead Space. Fallout 3 IMO is a bit too easy in that skills are capped at 100, unlike the first 2. And although Mass Effect was fun, there wasn't enough there for a second playthrough - just way too short.

I don't think it matters. He didn't base his complaints on Fallout lore, which is where playing the previous games would matter, he based his complaints in the same area of failings that existed in Oblivion. These complaints are pretty appropriate IMHO.

What!? ME was terrible! In no particular order:

Inventory
Planetary exploration
Reuse of base design for different missions
Load times
Accessing crew inventory on normandy requires walking to each locker independently
bad frame rate (on console)
Lame good/bad dialog options

ME has a lot of problems but at the end of the day it was still fun enough for me to finish it twice. I hope that they'll learn from their mistakes and correct them and not go the EA route with the sequels

How exactly was ME revolutionary or amazing? All Bioware did was take their usual game build, dumb it down, slap on generic sci-fi paint, and ship it. The game didn't have any revolutionary elements, and it barely surpassed the label or boring. I just got this massive "been there done that" while playing the game.

This happens way too often. I get excited for something then it "sucks" because it's good but not good enough. Bioshock was like that (short video), Doom 3 was hyped up then it let me down (although I still like that game), STALKER just pissed me off, and this keeps happening over and over.

I would probably like these games a lot more if I had never heard of them.

I don't think the problem is in the games. I think that the problem is that people read and watch too much about it and hype themselves up. If you relax and just wait out releases, and don't try to find out every little friggin detail about them, just maybe you won't be so let down. Besides, It's not like when a game sucks you should need to go up your prescription of prozac. I hope you don't take this as a personal flame cuz it isn't meant to be

I can't get fallout 3 to do anything but crash @ "new game"
crappiest $50 I've ever spent... the salt in the wound was I got it via an exchange @ circuitshitty

ME trumps Fallout in the story and character dept by a factor of 10, there wasn't a single interesting person to meet in Fallout, and the story was very short, and very unsatisfying.

Not to say that I didn't like it, but you guys bashing ME as shallow while putting Fallout on a pedestal are being extremely dishonest to not only yourselves but to the rest of us here.

Neither game is perfect and I think they cater to slightly different audiences, but they both have their merits and neither is a turd.

I haven't played ME but I felt the same way about Fallout 3. Nothing really caught my attention. I haven't played a good RPG in a while and thought this would get me into it. It didn't at all.
