What video card is required for the ATI HDTV adapter?
The Radeon 8500, 9500, 9700, 9800 series of cards
Is this adapter just for the ATI made cards or any card that uses the approved ATI Chips?
This adapter will work with any of the approved ATI chips, it doesn't matter if your card is from ATI, Powercolor, FIC, ECS or whoever.
Will this adapter work with any other card?
No.
But what if I tried to modify it?
No.
But my FX 5900 Ultra says it can output HDTV resolutions...?
NO! I really wish there was an adapter like this for other cards just to add a little competitiveness in to the market, but this adapter is mad strictly for the ATI video cards listed above. If you want to get your Video card displayed in HD resolutions to your HDTV then you will need a Transcoder. They run quite a bit more expensive but at least you'd have it on your HDTV. You can visit the AVSForum HTPC section and learn quite a bit there.
My HDTV has a DVI or a VGA port can I just use that?
You may be able to but you will have to use PowerStrip to add HDTV compatible resolutions and timings. I haven't used this method so I don't have too much knowledge on what is required.
ATI says the HDTV adapter is out of stock for my card. Where else can I get one?
The only other place I know of to get one is from eBay.com . ATI Is the only place to carry these adapters new.
Will the VGA HDTV adapter work on cards that require the DVI HDTV adapter?
YES! I was surprised to find that out on accident. I had the Radeon 8500 originally and upgraded to the 9700 and forgot the 9700 needed the DVI HDTV adapter. I used the DVI to VGA adapter on my DVI port and then hooked in the VGA HDTV adapter and Viola' ! It worked! The only problem I have run in to so far is on my Powercolor 9700 non Pro using anything than catalyst 3.2 will not allow 1776x1000i and my custom interlaced resolutions to be displayed properly. I don't know if this is related the me using the VGA adapter through my DVI to VGA adapter, or if it a problem between my card and the drivers exist. I don't have another card to test with at this moment.
There are little switches on the ATI HDTV Adapter, what are they for?
These are supposed to be for setting the modes the adapter will be able to output to your TV. I personally turn them all on. You don't have to set them I think because you can override and select the same settings in the YPrPb section of displays.
Will the Adapter work on a non HD Digital TV?
In theory all you would be able to display is 640x480 and other 480p resolutions.... I haven't tried it so I don't
