bascily what the header says....

got a new board, some problems, but got Windows installed....
now with the replacement board EXACT same brand and type,
i dont need to re-install Windows, do i??

its just this replacement board is having some performance issues...
benchmark bout 30-40% less then it should....
but its the EXACT same board that it replaced....

You shouldn't need to reinstall if the board is exactly the same.

You might want to check your BIOS settings.

assuming firmware and bios, ect are exactly the same it should require a re-format.

But since the second board didn't fix your problem, you may want to run a fresh install to see if that helps.

I wouldn't think so, seeing how I have never re-installed an OS when changing to a completely different mobo since win98. I simply go into device manager and un-install all the devices that I can, shut down, swap motherboards and re-boot. Windows finds everything, I update any drivers that need it and that's it. Never had a problem.

well....
i thought the same as you all did, BUT

a re-install of my OS and benchmarks are back up where they should be !!!!

i noticed i got the same install problems with ts board too , when i had memory at 333mhz (its KT333 MoBo)

so going to check out the memory
its Samsung the REAL thing!! PC2700 (2x256)

but maybe the RAM is at fault, creating a bad install in the first place, hmmmm

all very weird if you ask me ....

Glad to see you have fixed a few of your problems.

I had some issues with Windows installations in the past. I would get numerous errors and lockups during installation, at the system was always very un-stable. It wound up being bad memory. It was some budget stuff i picked up, had samsung chips but evidently the pcb was total crap. Bought some quality ram and have never had any more problems like that. Just my $.02.

yeah i hear ya sodcha, i am sick of budget RAM ,and getting lock up'/freezes/memory dumps.

so decided to get out the big cash to get some good stuff!
this stuff was promised PC2700 Samsung, genuie, as it has the Samsung PCB.

must just be a bad pair.....

ran GoldMem on it @266 top timings, no problems
ran Low timings but upped it to its default @333
fails all over the joint!!
1.2meg big error report and that was only 45% of the way through!!!

i might try one module at a time, but if i am going to ask for a replacement/money back i would rather have two new sticks of the same brand etc .....
