A reception antenna for desktop wireless

My machine has a pci-3 wireless lan/blooth card, and there is a little gold connector on the back to which, I assume, you could attach an antenna, which you could run out from under a desk and up where the signal might be better. I've been searching around Newegg etc and I can see a number of antennas with that style connector, but they all appear to be made to connect to a router to boost output signal. What do I need to search for to come up with what I'm looking for? Thanks, zz03
