I think this shows just how much pure video has matured since the days from nv40. Its pretty amazing, and looks to provide a very fierce competition for ATi's own AVIVO.
I would like to see a PureVideo/Avivo shootout using the most demanding H.264 content out there. Specifically I want to see which lowers CPU consumption the most.
Wow. I was actually quite impressed by the H.264 playback numbers. ~90-100% utilization without acceleration and only ~50% utilization with purevideo on.
I dont ever plan on playing DVDs on my comp, but, impressive.
I had the same thought but the costs to add or upgrade the new components to my existing rig could become very pricey, fast.
You can get the MS hd-dvd transport for $199 and upgrade my g/c to the 8800GTS (HDCP) card is another $500.
Another big issue: my 2405 display is not HDCP ready.
Well then ya side-grade to a different 7900 that has the required features or otherwise to the equivalent 1950 or whatever. But a li'l monitor is not exactly a compelling reason to bother so lack of HDCP all around matters less unless augmented by a suitable "TV-sized" display. Indeed, that should be the primary consideration, especially as there is an abundance of HD content not so encumbered.
