A really stupid question about blank dl DVD media. Probably belongs in another forum.

I bought a pack of blank dl DVDs a few days ago. When I got home, I noticed the box had a "RW" printed on it. So my first thought was that these might be rewritable disks. Are they? The reason I'm not sure is because the box doesn't have the word "rewritable" anywhere on it.

Thats what I assumed, but it seems like it would be clearly stated on the box somewhere. I mean, I'm a computing professional and if it's confusing to me, how is the average Walmart redneck going to know if it isn't in big letters somewhere?

YOU DUMMIE! (You said berate you)

I think there is some kind of logo that has RW in it which is on just about every DVD media out there. Read the box carefully and it will either say "Double/Dual Layer DVD+/-R" or it will say "DVD+/-RW"

These specifically say "DVD+R", but in another corner of the box there is the "RW" logo.

Only if you are discussing DVD media in threads. However seeing it printed on a DVD does not mean it is re-writable.

Since DVD+R/RW discs are not technically DVDs as per the DVD Forum standards, they are not allowed to display the DVD logo. Instead, they display an "RW" logo, even if it is not rewritable, which some consider to be deceptive advertising. However, they are readable by most DVD drives, so they are commonly referred to as DVD+R and DVD+RW.

Then what does it mean? At this point I'm confident that these are not rewritable disks.

I bought them at Walmart, and their web site doesn't have them listed. I think they are Verbatim DVD+R dl. I bought just a 3 pack because I wanted to do some compatability testing with them before I bought a 25 or 50 pack.
