a rather insensitive question about vision

Do people with crossed eyes or walleyes see things the same as people who don't? I guess what I'm asking is, does the brain somehow compensate for the eyes not being aligned correctly so that the person doesn't see double?

Cross-eyed people mostly have a dominant eye, their brain more or less ignores the other one. This can be healed in childs by patching the dominant eye (Link)
