Maybe im just paranoid, but feel like my computer has become louder since the time I built it a little less than a year ago.

Anyways, I have a X-Dreamer case, clear side panel with a led fan, and a similar no led fan on top. Antec 350 smartpower psu. p4 2.4ghz (the one with 533 fsb). Currently overclocked to around 2.88. Abit is7. I had a problem with the abit is7 chipset or motherboard fan. It died, so I replaced it with thermaltake tiger 1 combo.

With some investigation, its not the case fans, or the chipset fan contributing to the noise that much. the power supply, radeon 9600 pro fan, or the cpu fan is making the most. Nothing I can do about the psu/radeon noise. (well, without replacing them and spending a lot).

So, the question is how bad could the stock fan be compared to other solutions. I am probably willing to spend about 30 if I can get a significant reduction in noise compared to the stock fan. Any ideas??
The noise is not like unbearable or anything, but would like to reduce it as much as possible since I will be running it 24/7 as a server.
Also, please let me know of any expensive solutions that you think may blow me away with its quietness. I may consider it buying it later if worth it.

thanks in advance

I bought mine at Fry's. $30 but I had to pay tax. SVC is $30 and pretty cheap shipping (Priority US Mail).

That Thermalright is an awesome deal for that good of a heatsink. Pop a quiet (or even average) 92mm fan on it and get it all for just over $30 shipped.

Also, try this Arctic Cooling HSF for $9.99+shipping. It supposedly is really quiet, plus rated for up to 3.2GHz P4.

i highly doubt the artic cooling is really that quiet. you can't even measure below 20db with an anechoic room. either the guys at artic cooling got some crazy testing equipment or they are full of crap. imo, full of crap.

for the heatsink, i suggest 947 with panaflo L1A fan. its more quiet then the zalman, and cheaper.

You guys linking to the 947 are going to get him in trouble. That's a socket A heatsink. He needs the 948! Let me find the link to the deal... Link.

If the included fan isn't quiet enough for you, get a quieter 92mm. Avoid larger Panaflos, they're not very good. A 92mm Acoustifan should serve you well though.

Umm, the 947U is P4 478 compatible. One of the reviews shows it mounted onto an IC7.

I thought the 948 was released just to be compatible with the P4? It works with the stock retention clip, so you don't have to mod your motherboard.
