A quick question on FSB and multipliers

What's the point in making the multiplier lower?

Am I right in thinking that if you lower the multiplier, the fsb can reach higher limits - and a high fsb/low multi is better than a low fsb/high multi because the fsb affects the RAM as well?

Thanks guys.

Yes, the faster your memory runs, the higher the performance, especially in a system with an fsb.

edit: Of course, the faster the fsb, the higher the performance, even if the RAM is running slower, by using a RAM divider.

And lowering the multiplier allows the fsb to go higher than it normally would?

So there lies a happy medium on the E6800X where the multiplier can be turned down to say.. 9.. and the fsb raised to 550.. but if the multiplier is turned down to 8 only a few MHz more could be squeezed out of the fsb?

Why doesn't everybody just buy low multiplier chips, the E6300/400 and push the fsb really high instead of an average fsb and higher multiplier?
