Hello i was just wondering the diffrence betweene a AGP video card or a PCI0Express video card,

would you get better performance out of the PCI-E? Or dosnt it matter.

well the reason agp was abandoned for pci-e is technically because of the increased bandwidth pci-e offers. And also agp doesn't support any sort of multicard config.

As has already been pointed out... it depends on what kind of videocard your system uses. You can not put a PCI-E into a system designed for AGP and vice versa.

If you are upgrading an older system it is most likely AGP.

no well its a long story

im buying the parts now, im using the decision of either agp or pci-e to help my decision for intel or amd
the motherboard i would buy for the intel dosnt support pci-e
so im probably just going to go with the Amd, i heard they're better for games anyways, does anybody know if a amd duel core processor +3500 would go faster then a single core p4 G.0 Ghz?

You might want to wait about a month before buying any new cpu's because the prices are set to drop drastically in about 3 weeks for the AMD chips. Coincidentally the time the new Intel Core 2 Duo chips come out. If this is all Greek then just do a search for E6600 as it is going to be the next hot cpu for enthusiasts.

Anyway, decide on your cpu first and then worry about the videocard is usually the best approach to these decisions.

1. The processors are not fighting, so it's not "duel". AMD dual core processors can be identified by "X2" in their name.

2. I've never heard of an X2 3500+ chip. X2 3800+ is the cheapest AMD dual core currently available, although an X2 3600+ is reported to be released soon for developing markets.

For the AMD setup, are you considering Socket939 (DDR) or SocketAM2 (DDR2)? There is a Socket939 Athlon64 3500+ chip: single core (Revision E - Venice is current), and it's a good choice for a gaming-focused rig. All the Venice core Athlon64 chips (3000+, 3200+, 3500+, 3800+) are bargains now because of the recent price cuts. If you are overclocker get a 3000+ or 3200+ and push it beyond 3800+ speeds; if you don't overclock, the 3500+ and 3800+ give a great bang-for-buck.

Right now, between two of the same cards, one agp and one pci-e, take the 6800gs for example: THere is little (if any) performance difference between the two. Games don't take advantage of a x16 pathway as opposed to 8x. It may seem like pci-e is better because all the high end cards today are pci-e, but there is negligable difference between the two...for now. Pci-e is now cheaper than agp for the same card.

You'll really want to choose a PCI-E video card. I highly doubt anyone will be coming out with any new cards based on AGP. AGP has pretty much reached End of Life status.
