I have this power supply, the Corsair RM 750x.

I have a video card that needs an eight pin in addition to a six pin. The psu has a cable with both an 8 pin at the end, in addition to a seperate 6 pin a few inches downwards on the cable. Can I feed the gpu with this one 8 + 6 cable? Or should I run two seperate cables, one for the 8 and one for the 6th? Just want to make sure the gpu can get enough power, but don't want to add to the cable mess needlessly.

The 8+6 cables were intended for PCIe video cards that have a "standard" auxiliary power configuration like the one on your card. If you are going to max out the limits of the auxiliary power connectors, maybe you should consider using two cables instead; otherwise, you can probably get by with just the one cable. I think you would have to be doing some significant overclocking to push the power limits of an 8+6 connector config, though.

What is the GPU?

Seasonic recommend separate cables for GPUs that pull over 225w. Otherwise, one cable is fine.

In fact, the only GPU I have that I use two separate cables is my GTX 1080ti. I also have a GTX 1070, 1070ti, and a 1080 that all use just one PCIe cable (and all have the same pin configuration as you stated in your OP.) I do Folding@Home for weeks at a time, and I've never had any issues.

i melted the plastic on a pin running a 290 off one cable. i'd suggest using 2 if available.

Roger. I've decided to bite the bullet on the extra cables to fiddle with to be safe. I'll take a pic of the final build once it's finished in a couple days if anyone wants to see. :p
