recommend me a cheap good-old-timer motherboard for my brother's PC. I'm looking to spend $30-50, preferably $30~

my bro's PC just needs something that'd support XP1600+ (palomino i believe) and DDR ram. What are some excellent mobo's 1-2 years ago?

You'd be hard pressed to find a $30 mobo other than like a Socket7 or something. One way around that is the regular Fry's special that includes a CPU.

For Sale/Trade for a deal

Motherboards forum might actually get you better answers, since this is a Motherboard question

look up biostar on pricewatch, some cheap pieces of crap there but none for 30

This pretty much fits the bill IMO.

ive purchased stuff from them several times. never had a problem.

i actually checked that site to see if they had the board mentioned above.
Some of the Yahoo Shopping sites are seriously shady, but this one is fine in my experience. I've purchased a few things from them as well.

Newegg refurb if you got the luck and skill. I've gotten some great 24.99 mobos with free shipping.
