the cisco 3550-12G gig switch has 10 Gb fiber ports and 2 10/100/1000 Gb TX ports.
can the gig fiber ports work at 100Mbps speed?
I need to connect 3-4 gig fiber switches to this 3550 in addition to 2-3 switches which only have a 100-fx uplink capability.

i'm not sure if the SX gbics work only on gig speed or they can be made to work on a notch lower.....
thanks for the info...

Yeah I think you're going to need a media converter. You can probably get a 100fx KTI for 200 bucks or something.

All of the SFP based desktop switches that Cisco makes can use 100FX SFP's now. These are the 2960, 3560, and the 3750s. There is a SFP that will work specifically with these switches at 100FX. You can also run these ports at a gig too if you buy the appropriate SFP.
