Which is the most volatile: Heptane (C7H16), pentane (C5H12) or hexane (C6H14)
I have this nagging feeling it's an easy one, but I can't for the life of me figure it out

i think the lesses the molecular weight , the more volatile the compound will be ( assuming no cross-linking etc happens).

RMMs...
Heptane (7x12)+16=100
Pentane (5x12)+12=72
Hexane (6x12)+14=86

So would that be pentane?

Pentane the higher the number of carbons the higher the stability, generally, but then u guys r gonna say TNT to me arn't u?? ;)

vapor pressure

Compounds with a higher vapor pressure at a given temperature are more volatile.

A lower molecular weight substance will boil at a lower temperature then a heavier one.
