a quick BASIC question

i am trying to program in basic but forgot a command. i started out by using auto 100 so they number themselves but how do i get ouf of this? i thought i could get out of the auto numbering by pressing the break button but that doesnt work. help........my program ended at 170 and i am at 600 by trying to type stuff to make the auto turn off
