...they turn out to be agnostics. Will that change your belief into agnosticism?

huh?

You're asking... If an alien who believes that "the truth that there is a supreme being cannot be known" comes down... would someone who doesnt believe in god be changed?

that question makes no sense to me.

Also, isn't it a bit ironic that the entire alien civilization has firmly and unequivocally decided that they don't know something?

Actually, they sound pretty retarded. We'll take a pass on this alien visitation. We'll catch the next one.

No, I would just lose a little respect for the aliens if they chose to identify themselves as agnostic when asked about their beliefs. ;)

Besides, most atheists are also agnostics as well. It isn't a "middle way" between theism and atheism because it asks a completely different question.

how can you believe that god doesn't exist but also question whether he exists or not? :hmm:

theism = belief in a god or gods
atheism = lack of belief

Agnosticism deals with the question of knowledge. You are agnostic to the question of fairies or leprechauns..since you have no information that they exist. But you also (presumably) don't BELIEVE in them. Even without certain proof that they don't exist, and even if you are "questioning" their existence, your current lack of belief makes you an a-leprechaunist.

God himself could come down and be like..."lol, I am God." And I would STILL be an Atheist.

It's just the stigma of appearing unintelligent that holds me back from believing in any religion.

ok...i still see those at 2 totally distinct different things.

atheist = definitely doesn't believe god exists. no chance to believe that god exists.

agnostic = you're not sure if god exists or not. there is a chance that you would believe.

I would ask them if they had an opinion about it. Being agnostic doesn't mean you absolutely can't have an opinion on the matter. I suppose if they were a race that had literally never even considered the question of a higher power they might be truly agnostic.

Once we explained to them what we meant they'd probably say something like "Well that's a stupid question, but you can't answer it. In fact, it's a stupid question because you ask it in such a way as to defy answering. You're stupid for wasting so much time asking it. We'd prefer to spend our time asking questions that are worth our while".

That would technically be an agnostic response, wouldn't it?

So because some alien species does NOT know something i should change my choice in what i believe in?

That makes NO sense what so ever.

Fail post is fail.
