A Question

I just installed the opteron, and had a look at the bios. It says AMD CPU Unknown or something like that next to CPU Type, but windows recognizes it perfectly and automatically installs the X2 Driver (I think... It knows I got a dual core Opteron in there). Do I have to flash the bios? Or am I ok as long as windows recognizes my CPU. And are you supposed to be able to clock each core individually in the bios?

EDIT: Oh, and have Prime95 going on both cores (taskbar shows both at 100%), but Everest shows only core 2 at 100% - -?

Have a quick look within task manager to see whether you can see both cores on the graphs. I would recommend updating to the latest BIOS, you might find some issues otherwise, possible stability issues etc especially if you are looking to OC.

And no you cannot independently OC each core. The only thing you are going to OC is the HTT speed, which the CPU multi runs off, and generates the clock for both of the cores. You may find that one core is stronger than the other , and this case your OC will be limited to poorest performing core, unless you want to have an unstable OC.

EDIT: dont worry about Everest just trust the windows task manager

Both graphs show up in taskmanager. I guess if I run into problems OC'ing, I'll have to figure out how to flash the ol' bios.
