A question popped out of my air conditioner

Cover the top
Leave the sides open
If you kill power, make sure to turn it back on 24 hrs. before you want to use again.

Eh? My parents never did that and they have had their central A/C's outside unit for as long as I can remember.

We always put a piece of plywood on the top of ours to keep crap out. Couple bricks to hold it down and you are in business.

Down here in TX, I never bother. But then again, if we get 6" of snow all winter long, it's a nasty cold winter!!

Growing up in NY, however, my dad always covered it with a tarp, and secured it with a piece of light rope. Clothesline would be more than adequate. He did it more to keep the snow out of it than any other reason, but I don't know how important that really is.
