I have a new GF4 4400, 1ghz system, 512meg ram running on Win98.

Ok so to the question. Since installing the new drivers everything is running ok, but i can only select up to 1024X768 in the control panel. I have a resonably new AOC 15 inch monitor( iam not at the PC to check the model number but i think its something like a kl5e).

I am sure i could go higher than this with my old TNT2. Games like morrowind of course only give me an option up to 1024x768(probably based on my control panel settings). Am i missing out in quality because i have set up incorretly? Surely my monitor should support higher res than that? I know the video card can go much higher.

So has anyone got any ideas of how i can rectify this.

Thanks alot in advance

Rossco,

It's just sad that you spent over $200 on a new video card, yet stuck with a 15" monitor. I know my old 15" monitor will do max resolution at 12X10 with 60Hz refresh rate. For heaven's sake, upgrade your monitor. Please? ;)

Thanks dayg. that helps alot ;)

I do need another monitor, agreed. But i need a cooling solution ahead of that.

So is there nothing else i can do. As i said i am sure it would go to a higher resolution before. how can i tell.

If nothing else can be done, can a good monitor that wont break the bank be recommended by anyone.

Thanks

Rossco

Un-check the box "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" in the Display Properties control panel, then see what modes are available.

Thanks for the replies,

"Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" is this a standard function. I am not at the pc now, but i dont ever recall seeing this as an option. i am running windows 98se by the way.

if i can find it though, will it make any difference? will my monitor by able to show any higher? or is it just trial and error?

Thanks

I think the "hide modes" checkbox is for refresh rates only... but I could be wrong :)
