A question... Is it harmful to leave on your LCD monitor ALL THE TIME?

I know it's bad for CRTs as it will leave an imprint on your monitor and extended usage will very slowly degrade the vibrance of colors. How about for LCDs? I wish to use my beautiful flat LCD as a digital frame when not in use....

example

i dont know if it is harmful... but i never do it. i dont have a screen saver either... if i am not in front of the puter, i turn the monitor off.

monitors suck power... have it at least turn off after an hour or two of non-usage.

To answer your question, I don't believe it suffers from burn-in.

I always turn mine off even if I step away just for a pee break but thats because I dotn want people to see what im doing 😛 but yeah i always turn it off, I always leave my computer on though hehe

it's not important for LCDs or CRTs

they both will last years without using screen savers/turning them off when not in use

Except brightness will decrease with time.

I left my old 15" CRT on for 24/7/365 from 4/1999 until a few weeks ago.

I plan on doing the same thing with this LCD.

The CRT drew 85W, the LCD draws 25W.. A savings of..

CRT = $4.90/mo
LCD = $1.44/mo
----
$3.46/mo at $0.08/kWh

Negative. Hasn't been a problem with CRTs for many years.

Screen savers are basically worthless, at least as far as their original intended purpose goes.

Technically, LCDs can suffer burn in after a very long period of use without much change in what's displayed. They say it's a quick fix, just turn the monitor off and on a few times.

well ok you can leave your CRTs for 12 hours straight with no screensaver and have a faint image burned into it if you want but if i had a CRT i'd turn it off

I don't know my campus' brand new black dell monitors have a burn-in on every screen from the tutorial library wallpaper that is left on 18+ hours a day.

These PCs are pentium 4s.

I know i got mine to work on standby mode after perhaps 30 minutes of non usage.
at least generates less heat too
