nothing is absolute...you cant prove you exist...you can prove you arent a figment of someone else's imagination or a part of someone/thing's dream...everything is based off of what we percieve as senses, which in reality is just chemical signals from sensors to the brain...assuming any of that even exists...

however...all common things assumed (we do exist, there is a sun, etc. etc.)
i suppsoe some things can be absolute (death, etc.)

LOL... as soon as the OLPC pc is out there, that may be true!

Clearification on what type of absolute:

I mean absolute in the fact that it is always there. No matter where you go, what you do, this thing exists. No matter what group of people you come into contact with, this thing is absolute. Also no matter when in the course of time you take place, this thing is absolute.
I.E. it's true for all people, all places, at all times.

So far the list of absolutes are:

1) If it has a beginning it has to have an end
2) Hope
3) Disappointment
4) Malcontent
5) Woe
6) Human suffering
7) Death
8) Taxes
9) Sun rising the next day
10) Gravity
11) Loose faith
12) Poop
13) 6 * 7 = 42

Any others?

Absolutes are similar to essential oils in that they are concentrated mixtures of oily frangrance compounds derived from plants. But while essential oils refer to any type of concentrated fragrant oil extracted through the any process, including distillation, expression, or sometimes supercritical CO2 extraction, absolutes are typically made using a two step process. An organic solvent is first used to extract all hydrophobic compounds from the raw material producing the concrete, then the lower molecular weight fragrant compounds are extracted from the concrete using ethanol, which produces the absolute.

established mathematics is pretty much absolute. Last time I checked, 1+1=2 over the real numbers.

The only "true" absolute I see for every person on the planet at all times in the past, present, and future is..... well actually I don't see a single one. Genetic engineering can change so many things, technology *could* solve so many problems, as the universe ages it's possible the laws of physics can change, mature, or be clarified, etc etc. Any ideas or theories or "rules" can change because they are wholly based on the reasonings of thought, and are completely relative to the reasoning and behavior of the thought.

But the things that will most likely never change:

There will always be at least two sides to a story, whether each is told or not
For every negative there is a positive, or else there would be no conceived negatives nor positives
Greed will always be where there is even a slight inequality (and something to be exploited)
Where there is men there will always be a$$holes and where there is women there will always be b!tches
Music, art, entertainment, creativity, comedy, and expression will always be a part of the human culture
^For that reason, while a perfect society could never exist, a (almost perfectly) balanced society is possible, on the whole
Fear and Sex will always be the highest motivators
And there will always be at least one person in the world wondering where Elvis went to

aha- As long as a universe exists the only true absolute is balance, for without balance, neither a universe or a society could exist
