A question for you TV/Video people.

I have a 36in Sony trinitron SDTV. I got a 360 for christmas and hooked up composite video because I forgot my TV had component. Now my question is this. Should I see a difference in picture quatlity if I hook up component video from my 360 to my TV? My TV is not capable of progressive scan either.
 
not a huge jump in PQ, Composit transmit 480i fine for more situations. hell for video production back when we did 480i all our runs were composit for live shoots even though we could of done component just because the very small PQ gain wastn't worth the 3xmore cable to run

one thing to keep in mind that might give a percieaved jump in PQ is if you TV offers the Vertical Squeeze option (also called 16:9 enhanced) you can run your box in 16:9 mode and use that option and it will increase the pixil density and with my previous experience with that TV gets pretty darn close to looking like 480P
 
If your TV has component inputs, it 99.9% actually DOES support progressive.

Regardless, you will get better picture w/your system hooked up component.

EDIT: my point is, i've never heard of a TV supporting component input but not supporting progressive scan.

My tv can do 16:9. I'll try that when I come home from school.

incorrect. many highend SDTVs have component without progressive

I wouldn't call them highend if they don't spport progressive scan.

Most 27"+ SDTVs produced around 6 to 8 years ago featured component inputs without progressive scan capabilities.

Nonetheless, I think the OP will see a marked difference between component inputs and composite.

i'm talkin TVs made in the late 90s early 00s before HDTV took over the 32in+ HDTV market as the only avail for a decent TV. hell up to 04 sony still produced 32 and 36in flatscreen CRTs with SDTV only with component inputs.

Heh gotcha.

I got my first TV w/component input in 2001. It was a 27" Sony Wega. It was the first TV I had seen w/component input, and it had p-scan. So yah thats why I thought what I did 😛

They came with the 360. I hooked it up and I must say it looks good. The colors are much more vibrant.

Cool. Colors are the first thing you'll notice. Also edges where there is contrast. Everything is sharper.

I noticed that the resolution seemed a bit more...enhanced is the word I think I'm looking for. I don't know if that one of the things that I was supposed to notice. Maybe its just the better contrast that makes the resolution look a wee bit better. Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about 🙂.

Well a composite video connection can cause a bit of a blurry result, so the enhanced resolution look could be a reduction in the blurriness.
 
Wow. I am playing GOW over again on hardcore and I am able to see colors I wasn't able to see before. I had no idea Fenix had a blue thing on his back.
