Even though I have not been a ROCK contributor, I have worked with several similar projects/ministries.
All have sold and traded donated items to gain the items that we need. For some reason, you will get some items that you will never need, and not enough of other things. For instance one of the recycling projects needs a modem on every machine. I never use modems at the school, but need network cards, so we swap. The other day, he was low on raw CPUs. I had plenty, but needed some plug and play monitors. Another trade born.
We both need CDRom drives. They cost money. Once I needed $$$ to buy the furniture for the new lab. I was able to quickly sell 2 complete 266 mhz CPUs to buy that furniture at a bargain when we had a big surplus of machines and a big cash shortage. The logic was that God would supply more machines when we needed them, and better ones to boot!
I hope that this helps solve your moral dilemma. There is nothing wrong with what you propose.
