I recently got a set of MTX terminator 12' subs in a ported box. They are facing each other, at a angle, behind plexiglass. My question is how much watts should I be looking for to push them? Some one told me to "phase" them when i hook them up, which i had no clue about (i.e. switch the -/+ on one of the speakers), is this a good idea?

btw, I also have a old 3x12 MTX blue thunder in a sealed box from my old ride (it has its own amp screwed into the box), which I was thinking of stacking on top of the 12's box. Any thing special I should do for this assembly? Like separate the low bass (for the 12's) and the tight bass (for the 10's)?

I plan on replacing the stock Jeep door speakers with something like Infinity for the mids and highs, and of course running Monster cables for it all?

Thanks ahead of time for any input, I'm a car stereo noob.

If you "phase" them, they will cancel each other out. try it and see. (or rather hear :D)

5x12 in a jeep? you *might* need a separate battery or at least a cap or two. I had 4x12 in my old station wagon, and broke the seals on the back windows heh.

And this is just personal preference but I like sealed boxes a LOT more than ported, so if I were you I'd stick to the 3x12 sealed box and ebay (or whatev) the other one. Unless the new MTX subs are better, in which case you should research optimal box dimensions for them and see if they will work in the 3x12 box with another sub.

As far as wattage goes, read the docs from the subs (or look it up online with model numbers).

Good luck!
