Have you ever wanted to just turn it off to let people see what would really happen if the spam filter wasn't on? I always find it interesting when I get e-mails asking if the spam filter is on because they got two spam emails into their inbox today. I certainly don't mind checking to see if there is a new pattern that isn't getting caught yet (And I would rather deal with that then someone who clicks on a spam email) but I am not sure people believe me when I note that the other 462 spam emails were successfully blocked

Our spam filter can't be turned off as it's integrated with our cloud-hosted email. I do regularly provide statistics from our spam filter in graph form showing that of all email that goes to our domain, the filter blocks about 95% of it. It always shocks people.

I get this constantly. One user in particular feels it's necessary to let me know that she's received 5 spam emails per week. Nevermind the 500 she didn't get.

I used to. We moved to trend Micro Hosted email security and it has worked pretty well for us.

You should turn it off just for her for about a week. I bet she never says a thing again :whiste:

And I, on the other hand, when 2 spams get through, I recognize them as false negatives.

What kills me is the number of admins who are completely oblivious to the fact that when they brag about the 462 spams or 500 spams that were successfully blocked, that occasionally among those are false positives.

Yes lol

They complain about emails getting caught in spam as if just a few come in and it snags everything. Or they get a couple and think it isnt working. Our email flow is about 120K a month and about 75K of it is spam.

True dat! I make it a point to go through the spam folder almost daily with some specific search terms if the emails are too many. I can usually salvage about 1-2 emails a week that were false positives.

Since you use my number are you trying to say that I am oblivious to false positives?

 How big is the company? We get ~12k spam a day which I thought was quite low. Last place I worked was closer to 80k a day

Random side note: I've always found it interesting that spam takes weekends too. Or spam drops by about 15-20% Sunday and Saturday. Noon - 1PM is the biggest influx period with 3x as much spam as 1am
