I have my beliefs, others have theirs. Its not my place to force my views on anyone. I just wanted to get the input of non-believers.

I like to read Humpty Dumpty, 3 Blind Mice, or the Bible before something important. Any of them works for me.

That's your solution to everything! That probably explains why you can never get through a job interview.

I know when the interviewer joins me that I've found a winner.

Interviewer: "So, what's your experience with so-and-so?"

Not you, your post. The question posed. It's boring.

If God does help though, isn't that cheating?

I find whatever calm I can. I throw out anything in my mind not under my control and focus on what is under my control.

I've had a lot of good things happen to me in my life, never as a result of prayer. I've also had some bad things happen to me. I'd say, in general, the good outweighs the bad. After all, I'm making a decent salary and living comfortably in the USA.

I just don't see how prayer could possibly have a concrete effect beyond making people feel better inside. If it does that for you, then I'm in no position to argue. But it's pretty obvious to me that, even if God does exist, he clearly doesn't listen to or answer prayers. Basically, if he exists and has a plan, there's nothing you can do to change that.

You won't argue because there's some part of your brain that realizes how ridiculous your beliefs are. But it's funny that you consider defending your position "forcing your view" on others.

Must be nice living in a world where you can make baseless assertions, and anyone who disagrees is intolerant and you refuse to stoop to their level by actually offering support for your beliefs.

Oh, c'mon, that's not really fair. The OP has clearly stated that he's just curious. Whether he's curious to bolster his own beliefs or curious to feel smugly superior to non-believers is his own business (no offense, OP). He wanted an assessment, not an argument.

Besides, a person of faith talking to a person of non-faith will each accuse the other of "forcing their views" at some point. The frameworks with which each party references the world are just incompatible.

So your saying that when you have a job interview all you do is pray you get the job?

I do what the "Spiritual" should be(and likely are between Prayers) doing: I consider what I'm about to do and say. Focus on the task at hand.

I don't agree with that. We can both sit here for hours typing back and forth and neither of us will feel any better. If we agree to disagree, then we can both be right.

I don't think I have made any baseless assertions about anyone. Its not my place to judge anyone. If you feel threatened in some way by that, I am sorry.

I am not saying that at all. I pray for knowledge of God's will for me and the strength to carry it out. I also pray to be able to accept the things I cannot change.

It works for me, I am not saying that it has to work for you. For me, its a better way to live than my old ways.

I think talking to myself is crazy enough, I don't need to make up another imaginary being to talk to thank you. Everything happens for a reason, talking to your imaginary friend isn't gonna change anything.

I find it ironic that you belittle his spirituality and go on to say, "everything happens for a reason", a highly spiritual outlook.

I actually don't think he is speaking of 'everything happens for a reason' as a spiritual thing.

Well, he may in fact be referring to that, but I do not think so.
My take: everything happens for a reason, because whatever happened, there was a reason that outcome took place. There are a lot of variables, and the outcome depends on those variables. If everything is set in motion in one way, the reason it happened was because of that variables. You have to look at everything from the perspective of, "how can this have an impact on what I want to be accomplished".

I pray my ass off when I am faced with situations like that. Even when my faith wasn't the greatest, I would pray that things would work out. What do you do if you don't believe in a higher power?

majority of Americans think Jesus = Santa

pray to god to win the lottery

if you aren't controlling a job interview outcome you may want to prep harder.

I study... on the job on the company and anything else.. why waste my time praying to a fictional being that hasn't done a darn thing for me ever.. I control my destiny non other.

There is no reason to waste time that you could be taking the bull by the horns and preparing yourself instead of sitting in church and wasting your time.

sorry but refer to my sig for my belief.

on a more serious note, i lean on my family and friends for support. i've prayed enough to god and never received an answer so i'm done with him.
