A question for those of you who have read 'The Da Vinci Code'

It seems as if lots of Catholics are up in arms because of The Da Vinci Code's (fictional) content. Presuming the fiction is fact, shouldn't more than just Catholics be paranoid?

I mean, if the story deals with a conspiracy to cover up the true history of Christ (from what I've heard), wouldn't other Christians be having a cow as well? Or does the book specifically slam Catholics?

I just don't get the whole entire "DON'T READ OR SEE THE DA VINCI CODE OR YOU'LL GO TO HELL" talk if the book/movie is just fiction.

Thoughts? 😕

The Catholics are up in arms mainly because of how Opus Dei, their "secret" organization, is portrayed in the book and movie.

Watch the History Channel on the Da Vinci Code. I'm a Christian and if you believe the book/movie, then that's on you and
you obviously haven't done enough research and will probably believe anything that's put out conspiracy wise.

The OD footnote they want in the movie is a stupid request, it's just a movie, they can say whatever they want to.

Other Christians are having a cow as well, but not nearly to the extent of Catholics.

Did you see how outraged they got about Kevin Smith's "Dogma?"
To paraphrase Kevin Smith, "it was a movie with a freaking rubber poop monster in it!"

I liked the book. Interesting religous conspiracies (not sure if they are true). Not sure why catholics and such are all upset about it. If the book is false then forget about it. It is your own beliefs and no one else can change em.

This one has albinos
I guess that the albino population is pissed about the book and movie because an albino does the murdering.

Our non-denominational church is about to do a 4-week series on the book, so I'm sure I'll learn something about it.

as i understand it, the catholic church was angry with the book not because of the subject matter, but because Dan Brown claimed everything was based on real stuff

I'm Catholic and loved the book, seeing the movie as well. Dont know if hanks should have been langdon, but we'll see.

ditto on both accounts.

though i liked angels & demons better.

and i can't really see any actor playing langdon.

True - I do remember that.

Maybe the upper echelons of the Catholic church like stirring up controversy for controversy's sake? 😕

great book!
in my opinion, no one should be up in arms. people are reading this book as a doctrinal reference rather than a good fictional story with minimal historical facts. if this book shakes you in your faith than you need to study your faith more and not base your beliefs on a novel.

I was wondering how worked up churches would be getting. I'm sure the local southern baptist to the extreme church will do something.

Nor can I, but I was hoping for a no-name guy so this does not turn into a "Tom Hanks movie"

Yeah at the beginning he mentions how the story is fictional, but everything else (the cults and what not) is fact. Pretty interesting stuff.

Free publicity? 😛

da vinchi code- read it, liked it, i don't really care if jesus really had kids
angels and demons - read it, liked it, don't really care if CERN is really cranking out anti-matter bombs or not
deception point- read it, liked it, don't really care if the presidents chief of staff has really taked control of delta force and is killing people to make NASA look good.

i read dan browns books because they entertain me, not because i need something to change my life or i want to protest something.

Free publicity for The Da Vinci Code, that is. Maybe they secretly WANT people to read it because it IS true!

Duh duh dunnnnnnnn...

It's an interesting read. Though, pretty inflamitory to Catholics and all Christians, I thought. But, nothing I haven't heard before...pretty old premise to anyone with some interest in Biblical Studies and/or Early Christian History.
