A question for SETI users with A7Vs

Do you ever experience sound problems while you have SETI running? When ever I run SETI I get static and clipping while playing mp3s or games at the same time. But when I turn SETI off everything's fine.

I've also found a few other people with similar problems. If you've had this problem and fixed it please tell me how.

And, if you have this problem, what kind of sound card do you have? I've noticed that not everyone who has this problem has the same sound card.

I'm trying to confirm weather or not this is just a random glitch or a problem with the A7V. I think that it might not be 100% compatible with SETI. Thanks. 🙂

I have an A7V w/out audio, rev. 1.02, and a SB Live! Value running the 4.11.01.0711 version of the EMU10K1.vxd, according to the Device Manager. I am using Win98SE on this computer, and there have not been any noticable problems with the sound when running SETI (I use 3.0 CLI). Have you tried putting the sound card in a different slot? I don't know what else to suggest.

Edit: for what it's worth, I use headphones instead of speakers.

I have had this problem, and switched this system to RC5 because of it....there are generally 2 ways suggested to fix it:
1.) Change the PCI slot the SB Live! is in.
2.) This one is rather new, and doesn't seem to help all the time: Play with the DirectX debbug settings. It was suggested here, but some people said that it didn't help them. It seemed to fix my problem (or it may have been me switching around cards in my system, I did both practically at the same time), but I only tried SETI with it for an hour or 2. (The system is now commited to RC5)

Stop, the second fix is supposed to work in Win2k, I have got no idea if it will work in Win98...🙁

Wait.. you mean people actually use their computers while SETI is running?!? Wow, I've got this small fleet of 'em dedicated just to SETI 24/7.. that's interesting!! 😎

...running win2k here, but i haven't had that problem in win98se either. i've used the drivers from the cd for the sb live as well as the updated drivers from the website. that sucks. at least your still part of the TeAm, but I wish you were able to run seti.

I've tried the sound card in every PCI slot and it hasn't helped. I'm going to be upgrading to Win2K when the holidays start so maybe that will help.

BTW my A7V is rev 1.01A w/o audio. I have the most recent drivers for everything and the BIOS is 1004C.

I have an A7V and never had this problem, But belive it or not, it could be your video card.
BTW your using the GUI right?

office boy

My video card? I tried with a Voodoo3 and a GeForce2. What's the GUI?

Viperoni

I'll try that. Thanks. 🙂

By GUI, I think office boy is referring to the GUI (graphic user interface) version of the SETI client, as opposed to the CLI (command-line interface) version.

Muerto, interested in trying the 3.0 CLI version? It is faster. I can email it to you, send me an email or a private message if you want it.
