We're redoing our basement, which hasn't been fixed up in about 60 yrs. And before I can get the new TV and Furniture in (and yes I will have pics) We have to scrub the walls. The walls are pine paneling with about 60yrs of dirt on them, and thus far, we have tried a ton of stuff, including a 6% bleach solution (didn't work), pretty much every mainstream cleaner, paint thinner and most other obvious solutions. The one thing that worked very well was a cleaner called Spray 9, the stuff works miracles, it's by far the best household cleaner on the market ( The NSA uses it to clean helicopters and anything else, thats how we found out about it ) but is very expensive, around 7$ a bottle, and can only be found at home depot.

The other thing that worked well was sanding the paneling, but theres a ton of this paneling, and the area is low ventilation, and sanding is messy as hell. I'm wondering if anyone could recomend me a cheap and easy way to get the grime off the walls. I'm willing to sand it all down, but that adds another like 8 hours to an already mammoth job.

Try a mix of 25 percent bleach with some liquid laundry soap and water then scrub it with that using a scotch brite pad.

Another option is this stuff: http://superiorcarcare.net/amazingrolloff.html mixed with water and scrub with a scotch pad.

I've used both to make old boats interiors look better. The roll off stuff really is amazing and is the better option of the two.
