Am I naive to think that if you buy a core system (without hd), you can put just ANY hd in it and it will work? or there needs to be some modding to get a comp hd to work?

There is ABSOLUTELY NO reason to buy the core system unless you are a cheapskate bastard who shouldn't be buying an expensive console in the first place.

And NO, you can't use just any hard drive in the core system. It must be the official MS HD.

You can get any HDD to work with it now. The only thing is, it can only be used for music and pictures. If you want to store your profiles, game saves, demos, XBLA games, etc then you'll need the MS Xbox360 HDD.

Just DON'T buy the core system :D

By the time you add the stuff to it to make it even worth using, you could have just gotten the premium system :D
