A question about Windows mail.

I have a problem when i try to send a mail from Windows mail in Vista. When i press the "to" button there is no drop down menu under the option "find" as in Outlook Express. How can i change this so i can choose different group of contacsin Windows mail? Thanks!

Sorry for not directly answering your question, but... I dunno! I didn't use it very long - maybe a few weeks - and that was 18 months ago!

The mail client that comes with Vista is really, really, bad! And, I'm NOT a Vista hater - I love Vista! It's just... the mail client sucks!

I thought it was me, at first, but after doing a little reading, I found out that it's so bad that MS gave up on it too, right after they released it.

I definitely suggest giving live mail a try as well. It reminds me of outlook in that it handles mail, calendar, contacts, feeds and newsgroups.

While you're at it, check out some of the other live apps. I love the Live Photo Gallery myself.

LoL! I *guess* that's a question...

If it was... no, it doesn't require anything. I just use it as a normal mail client.

I suppose I could use it on Yahoo, but Yahoo requires a subscription if you wanna use POP, and I h-a-t-e POP! Therefore, yes, Yahoo requires a subscription, but WLM doesn't.

Actually, I use IMAP exclusively, which is irregular, so...

I use Windows Live Mail as an irregular mail client, not a normal mail client.

Hrm...

Anyway, that's how I measure how well a mail client works! If it handles IMAP nicely, then I know it's a champ - and WLM is a champ! :thumbsup:

The problem is that some free mail servers don't offer POP3 or IMAP protocols. If you use a POP3 mail client, the email provider can't fill your mail reader full of advertisements, like they can with a webmail client.

I used to have a pretty cool 'plug-in' that logged into Yahoo, downloaded my messages to Outlook, deleted them off the Yahoo server, and logged out. The only problem was, it was still (effectively) POP. :thumbsdown:

yep was a question, i am on pop and the mail server uses a spam filter which keeps @ 99.9% from reaching the pc.

using WLM would keep all your mail and mail folders offsite correct.

Is there a resolution for Live Mail crashing a few minutes after it checks for new mail? Seems to be a problem with the program itself as the same behavior happens on two different computers.

Yeah... well... if you use IMAP, that is. MSOE will do the same thing.

Matter of fact, any mail client that supports IMAP will do the same thing - the difference is how well they handle IMAP.

Think of it this way...

Web mail interfaces, for the most part use IMAP. Some places like Google Mail use their own custom implementation of IMAP, but it's still IMAP. Sooo... when you're using IMAP on MSOE, WLM, Thunderbird, or whatever, it's basically acting like a quasi-web mail interface. The thing is, you can 'login' to dozens of 'web mail' servers, all at the same time.

IMAP allows you to leave your mail on the server, just like you're using a web mail interface.

All I do is download the headers, from various web servers. I never download the messages to my local machine. I leave all my email on the various mail servers, and use up their drive space, instead of mine.

Most of my emails, I either delete from the server or I move them to a spam folder on the server. If they're important, I store them in a special 'savers' folder on the server. Once again, I never download them to my machine.

What's the benefit of IMAP? Primarily, I can access my emails (past, present, and future) from any machine in the world. I don't have to wonder which local machine it's sitting on, or not.

Anyway, WLM makes a dandy IMAP client - many more features than I'll ever use... but it doesn't get in your way like Thunderbird, for instance.

If you'll pardon the stale cliche', think of it as MSOE on steroids!
