a question about windows desktop

when i use a white background the text for the icons don't show up that well, has anyone else had this problem? i tried turning off clear-type or whatever, but that makes the text vibrate. any ideas?

If you are just using a colored wallpaper, the text color will change from black to white depending on the color chosen. If' you're using pics as wallpaper, it uses the white text plus drop shadow. You can set the icon text to be bold. That ay help.

IIRC the color of the icon text is determined by the average color of your desktop.. but might be off here

First turn off drop shadows for desktop icons by right-click on "My Computer" » "Advanced" tab » Select "Settings" under Performance » Uncheck "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop".

Next download and run Download D-Color XP ; it allows you to change icon text and backgrounds to whatever color you want.

but if you turn off the drop shadow thing, the the icons are no longer transparent. is it possible that you just can't have both?

EDIT: just tried dcolor, wow it works awesome. thanks paulb
