A question about the Zalman CNPS7000-Cu.

I was considering buying this for my new A64 rig, but I had a quick question. Chances are that I'll be building it at college but then driving it back down to my home in VA. If I do that, the system will obviously be moved a bit--I pack it well in my trunk, but there's no doubt that the system gets jostled a bit. Now, I know this heatsink is ridiculously heavy, so I was wondering if I was in any danger of damaging the socket, core, or mounting bracket? Would it be a better idea to disassemble the HSF and remove it from the case, before I move? Thanks.

It's a good idea to remove the HS before you transport it. You risk your CPU and everything around it. Also everything that it hits will get busted. :p

i figure if you keep it packed mobo-down you should be fine.. I'd be more worried about your hard drives if you're getting jostled around a good amount

Just get the AlCu version, it cools the same (or better) and is loads lighter. Mine keeps my 3000+ @ 2.5GHz under 45C at 100% load.

Not an issue.

You cannot move my experiments PC without a forklift anyway, and a forklift doesn't go through the door.

Just make an arrangement that you can leave the PC in the old apartment and use it over the Internet from your new place ;)
