A question about the registry

I have gotten a new mobo and i need to reinstall windows now. Is there a way to back up the software parts of the registry. I want to reinstall as little programs as possible. (also what is a good size for a windows only partition 5gb?) Thanks

Only way I know of backing up the registry is as a whole.

I usually shoot a little higher for the system partition because you never know what will happen. Unless you want invest in Partition Magic, then it doesn't matter because you can add size to a partition.

I would start at 10gb's...but that is just me. With drives being so large, space is pretty cheap.

My C is 20gb (out of 250) and contain windows + programs, while games and recorded TV are on D and mp3, video and backups are on my external 250gb.

I have a copy of partition magic. So should i boot using that and add another operating system, then delete the old windows? Or is there something else i can do?
