A question about the Radeon 5770, overclocking and CCC

Using the CCC program that comes with the card, I notice that if I click the over drive box, the "current" memory and GPU values go up towards the OC values. If I turn it off, these values stay extremely low while idle and only spike when there is activity.

Is there a way to not have the card flex its muscles when I am not doing anything special?

You wanna fix? Roll back to driver 10.4 and you can overclock and keep your low idle frequencies. Better yet if you don't want drivers breaking things on you, go green next time...

My 4770 is overclocked, but I don't really update my video drivers until something is wrong, so I'm still at 10.1 or 10.2, and overclocks still work properly.

So overclocking with the latest CCC now causes the card to run at full speed all the time? Has this been a known issue for a month or so? Hard to imagine they missed this in 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7

Not at full speed but it runs at a higher frequency as if you had two monitors connected and yes driver 10.4 is the last driver that works properly...(it jumps to 400 from 157 and memory runs at full speed)

Didn't you have an ATi logo as your avatar before? I guess this is why you don't have it anymore.

ATI needs more money.

So they can hire some better employees.

Wow, thank you VERY much. I will make the switch to 10.4 tonight!
