A question about the death penalty...

This isn't a discussion on whether it is right or not, or whether you support it or not, I just want to know which method is the most painful. Although they all seem like they would be painful in one way or another, I have heard that lethal injection is the most painful. Anyone know?

Well i figure death by firing squad (headshot)would be the least painful. Not that we would do such a cruel thing.

Hmm...this is an interesting question. My guess would have to be that the 'chair' is the most painful. That or being hanged. Why on Earth would you want to know something of this sort? Just curious.

After seeing Dead Man Walking, I'd say lethal injection is a baaad way to go.

Being hanged isn't that painful, not if it's done correctly. THe person isn't strangled, but rather their neck gets broken. That's why it takes an "expert" to set up a hangin'. Too long a rope, and the head pops off :disgust: too short, and the convict strangles.

After watching the Green Mile, I would say that execution by electrocution is the worst.

I agree with you GreenBeret. Given my stats in CS, I can agree that a headshot is a painless method of execution. I must have been shot in the head 500 times in the last week!

In light of the whole Timothy McVeigh trial and his wish to drop the appeals etc. in order to expedite his death sentence, it just got me thinking about what would be the most painful of all the methods of the death penalty. Just curious, that's all...I'm really not a sick-o or anything. ;)

GreenBeret when did you become such an expert on hanging people? Are you speaking from experience? J/K

It is documented that a severed head is concious for many seconds after being removed from the body. I would like that to happen to McVie.

Or how about drawn and quartered? Burned at the stake?

Sadly his death will not bring the closure needed for the losses the families in Oklahoma suffered.

Sadder yet is Janet Reno gave the SOB the excuse to do what he did. That era is about to close. I hope the next one is not as troubling for America.

I think the worst ones would be hanging and electrocution, especially if somethng went wrong.

where did you hear that lethal injection was most painful. i'm pretty sure that they're completely under when they go so the only pain would be from the IV the doctor puts in. personally i think hanging has got to be the worst because a lot of time it doesn't work and your left their to suffocate. if you really want to learn about some horrible ways to die then check out midevil torture practices.

I don't see how lethal injection can be painful, either. Dr. Kervorkian is always raving about how painless it is, and whenever I've had to take a pet to the vet to be put to sleep it doesn't seem painful past the initial needle stick.

There is an expression...You'd kick if you were hung with a new rope!. It was my Father's favorite expression to me when I was living in his house!:D

A new rope will not stretch....snaps the neck. A used rope will stretch and often the hapless individual, being on the wrong end, strangled. Evidently since hands were tied quite a bit of kicking went on....;)

...and I think the very worst way would be a sexual...ah..engagement to the mistake of nature whose picture sometimes circulates amoung AnandTech Members....I deleted the link long ago!!!:D BBAADD way to go!:disgust:

I have heard that the lethal injection used for the death penalty is different (maybe a different drug or something) than what doctors use to put animals and people to sleep. I have also heard that it is a very slow process, and perhaps this attributes to the pain. I don't remember where I heard this, and I don't even know if it is even true, I was just wondering if anyone knew for sure which method was the most painful.
